We've been recruited for sound, so we're gonna be there, sitting around the camp fire singing songs when we are not running around after the 45 -50 odd bands playing there that weekend!! Smiley Embarrassed

Not that I'd ever think of going to one of blink's indie scenester, salvation army chic get-togethers, but I am curious, has he got anyone confirmed? even just the headline acts?
'Buy your tickets now but I can't tell you who's playing till it's too late to buy a ticket' is not the biggest incitement to go along really.

Hey Si, maybe it's not your scene - but it could be some rock factory forum watcher's scene. I certainly enjoy working with the guy.

and anyway - that's the whole point... it's a surprize!
I have a fair idea who might be there though, quite likely some of the bands he's taken on tour - probably will be a big sorta party, re-union, get together thing - which i think will be fun... if your into indy and camping. Being un biased as I am as an engineer towards most genres - It does not worry me who's playing. I usually enjoy the bands he has on his shows. He's taken some reasonably well known bands, and some really unknown bands on tours... pretty sure some of those will be there.

haha. I love it when I get accused of being "scenester".
Do you consider bands like The Phoenix Foundation, Ghostplane, cassette, Phelps and Munro, The Inkling, Degrees K, Ejector, Yokel Ono, Thought Creature, Over the Atlantic, Voom, Grand Prix, Hot Swiss Mistress, The Undercurrents, Jakob, Operation Rolling Thunder,  Alps, Odessa, Signer, The Mysterious Tapeman, Bloody Souls....

Do you consider these bands "Hip" and "Scenesters"

Just because A LOW HUM doens't happen to tour "rock" bands, it does not mean that i tour bands obsessed with fashion. Even the bands that you perhaps put into a "scenester" category, ie: Disasteradio, So So Modern, Teenwolf etc..etc... You only do this because you don't know any other way to categorize their music and find it easy to dismiss their underground popularity with a flippant remark like "scenester"

haha. man, can't believe i got that rarked up, but i think people don'tactually think about what I do and that I take MULTI genres on tour - Punk, post-rock, acid jazz, rave, new wave, disco, art, experimental, blues, alt-country, drum and bass, surf, pop, funk, pysecedelic pop, indie-pop, noise, dance-punk, jangle-pop, sci-fi pop, (pretty much a wide spectrum, just not "rock" and "metal" - haha, which makes me probably fairly unpopular on these boards ;0) .... don't tell me ALL of these genres are hip and trendy.

PS. RE: CAMP A LOW HUM.
There are No "HEADLINE" acts. The whole reason I put on camp was to make people realise there is no such thing. How many times have you heard people say how the best act at BDO played at 11am in the morning. There are 48 bands playing. 95% of them play twice, once early, once late. All bands are equal. They are all their to party and have a good time. The reason why I love Michelle and mark so much is that they have wonderfully open hearts and minds and are keen to discover new music... this is what camp low hum is about. Stepping outside your comfort zone and seeing the range of amazing music being made in nz (and a coupla intl acts).

you should come. open your mind.

Ok reading back on my comment I was needlessly being an asshole, thanks for the considered and thought out reply Blink.
I'll give you you've had some very interesting and very good bands on tour from that list, even if some of them aren't my cup of tea.
I don't dig people advertising a gig but not giving out the names of the other bands, mind you that is mainly cause of 2 particular acts we've gigged with who refuse to list the acts they are on the bill with unless the act is higher than them on the totem pole- admittedly a different kettle of fish....
we couldn't intice you to name a few acts?

I don't dig people advertising a gig but not giving out the names of the other bands,

yeah, I can totally understand that...but this isn't a gig, nor is it a festival. it is a SUMMER CAMP. ie: games, funtimes, camping, arts and crafts, canoes, swimming..  the fact I have also booked 48 acts to play over the three days is irrelevant. I have priced it at what you'r expect to pay for a three day summer camp with entertainment provided. The fact the entertainment KICKS SERIOUS ASS haha, is not the point.

I wanted people to come and get in the spirit of camp, ie: hanging out around the campfire, playing spotlight in the middle of the night, canoeing and swimming...etc...getting involved, I knew if I advertised bands I'd just get people coming to see live music, and that is NOT what camp is about.

haha. its a weird notion for people to get around their heads...which is odd. cause it makes total sense to me.

and, haha, nope. i can't divulge who is playing as that would ruin the whole point;) though Michelle was totally right, I think most people can guess who is playing, the usual suspects from low hum tours etc..

I'm looking forward to next year when I won't get so much sh*t for the whole names thing...cause hopefully by then, people will get what its about.
