Wow, what a fantastic microphone. Not as out of control as I expected.
Very full, smooth and solid bottem end, that goes way down there.
used on an old ampeg with a 1X15" cabinet with a AT4041 for top end.
Fender P.

Absolutely will use it on a bass drum when I get the chance.

hook, as producer of your own band you would have had a good idea of what you want you guys to sound like from the start, thats why you took on the job.. you were the best man for the job..

For our album, i didn't produce it myself.
Dont know if i'd say i was the best man for the job either.

For our second album coming up, we had originally planned for me to do the whole thing.
But after the GNN album, i've decided it's just too much work for me to do it all myself.

Engineer, Mix, Produce, Play, and sing on our next album will be too much so we're talking to
'someone else' right now to help out with it all.
Should be good to get some 'fresh ears' on the project.

DO ~ sure you can come down sometime. I'll try pick a project that you'll get the most out of..
Wouldn't mind coming to hang at 'your place' one time either. Smiley

Tess ~ Cyndi Lauper's 'Time after Time' is my second fav song ever. But you (should) know that. Tongue

The new place is great but 'cuttin yer teeth' in less that ideal situations
forces you to get creative. Then when you're dealing with a good room and gear,

Hook - true, I feel a little better now... still gotta 6 mixes before 11 Nov (NZ ON Air deadline...) and that's only 1/3 of my backlog Grin
Uni not helping.

Did you mix and produce GNN's "Milkshake" cover? Have  to say I love it Lips sealed Huh

Is Haver a producer?

Tess - I'll let you know, as soon as i know when I'm coming down... hopefully after uni finished :-) I Still can't beleive that your mum was my intermediate school teacher... that's so cool Cheesy Smiley

hollis -  Had a look ast someones Nuemann km184s and akg c900s (he said they are good as overheads) and also looked at a pretty looking ribbon mike that the owner had only used twice...
I'll be sticking to Rode and audio Technica for the moment tho, bit outta my price range Grin but I'll get there one day Roll Eyes

audio technicas make amazing microphones
the 4033 is fantastic for the price.
I'm actually going to to get 2 tomorrow.
the 4051 is also great.

Haver calls himself a producer.
I have my doubts

orginal 451e pre amp bodies with CK1 cardiod caps and...so cool....A51 swivels!
all i need is some -10db pads and I'll be in tom heaven.
a must have for all recordists.

found a guy in germany who sells octava mk012 cheap.
Hook, have you used them?

Buckton Smiley

I tell bands that record with me, that if they want the next step (more like leap Grin) up in recording quality they should go to him at Studio 203.
He does a good job, and is not as expensive as York Street.

Finishing 4 more tracks for the ep at the moment which I'll mix with him early next year. Really enjoyed working with him.... Always easier when you get on well and you've got a similar end result in mind.

Positioning of mics as well - I've heard you can get cool results with an angled mic towards the centre. Betas are cool. Still retain that cut-through midrange roar of the guitars. I also think double miking is the way to go. Rode + 57 (or some other dynamic mic) blended would be cool. Most of you liked clip 2 in my other post - that was double miked with a 57 + 421. I've also heard good things about Audix i5 and Sennheiser e609s especially for high-gain applications.

And then again, it all depends on the cab as well. Listen to the massive difference  - both cabs are loaded with V30 speakers and mic was an Audix i5. The only difference is the cab itself.

I like doing 2 takes with one mike (say a rode) and a seperate 2 takes with another different mike (say a beta 57), then blending/panning in different places - gives a nice wall effect...
