I usually like the goldstein ads but not the latest one with the blonde woman.
I do like those revlon ads with Susan Sarandan because I look up to her and she is a good actor.

I love the tsb ads that are on at the moment and I quite like the road safety ads and the four square ad where the old women and the guy are sitting at the bus stop and they lie so he gets flowers and chocolate which he can't take on the bus so he has to give them to the girls.

I have to say that Brotown is actually one of the most intelligently funny cartoons around, just shy of the simpsons and Futurama.

I find the 4 Square ad blatantly sexist and ageist. To portray two older women as conniving, duplicitous and unprincipled could be seen by some to promote stereotypical notions of women and the elderly. And I don't suppose I need to illustrate the notions implied of the young man and bus drivers, as well as small town community ethics.

yeah but old women are exactly like that - I saw it on telly, and a bloke down the pub told me so it must be true. Apart from the obvious, that f**king music grates my nerves. I was actually getting at an earlier posting about sexism etc - and the bloke down pub - know him, I think he actually God....or the masculine version of it anyway...would explain the beard and, and the dirty fingernails

It depicts the women as being intelligent, it depicts the man as being generous.

The women are shown as scheming thieves and the bus driver is aiding and abetting the scam - they should all be locked up for an indeterminate length of time. Surely you aren't condoning theft liz?
And the music is still shite.

NO it doesn't, the ad is very subjective. They are shown as being witty and helpful, not connoving as you think. they are helping the guy to make his girlfriend happy.
He is then depicted as being generous because he gives two strangers the things he can't take onto the bus.
The bus driver is depicted as being a rule obeyor because he doesn't allow the guy on the bus which is the rule. This is the only time bus drivers are depicted in a positive light.
I didn't notice the music but this ad is excellent.

I think the girlfriend would have been happier with the chocolate and the wine. Manipulating people taking advantage of the guys vulnerable situation is what they were...
If I had been the bus driver, I would have let him take the food and drink onbaord - infact, the buses usually say "no eating and drinking" onboard and don't have rules against carrying them onboard unopened. Infact, isnt it the case that the bus driver was in on it? he helped the old ladies and was therefore an accomplice.

This is the most intelligent post on this topic. Try to adapt to the thinking of others - insight like this is too valuable to ignore.
Thank you for your input there Sturm. I think you just posted one of Cynic's "Green Speckled Toads" - don't worry too much about Malibu, nothing will change her ways - not even advice from the truly learned.

Definitely theft. Neither of the old ladies paid for anything. The poor boy was exploited. Bus driver is 3rd party to the crime. How can we condone this sort of vile behaviour? It sets a poor moral precedent for our younger generation. It is ok to steal. Death penalty I say!

If you really think this, you are possibly the only person in NZ who did and the ad went completely over your head. I refuse to believe that you missed the point this badly.
