ok, with clues so people can google.
1. Name the Ike Turner song often regarded as the first rock and roll song ever recorded. (Clue title has a number in it)
2. Name the norwegian death metal band who used photos of their vocalists suicide as an album cover. Bonus point name their aptly named singer. (clue: if you google bandmember names Euronymous and Hellhammer it may show you the answer)
3. Name the Thomas Dolby single which featured Eddie Van Halen's guitar work. (Clue think late 80s- early 90s)
4. Which Left handed surf guitarist, other than Thomas Cynic, refers to himself constantly in the third person? (he kept tigers, featured on a number of surf movies and his best known song was used in pulp fiction)
5. the first independant artist to get to number one in the american singles charts was?(Another film clue. song was used in the film reality bites)
6. Name the reformed 80s hair band whose drummer is transsexual.( Drummer was previously a personal assistant for Titanic producer James Cameron)
7. Jimmy page borrowed a lot of things from a lot of places. The intro to stairway to heaven bears an uncanny resemblence to a song by an american psychadelic group. Name the band and song.(The twelve keys of doctor sardonicus was the name of the album)
8. The beach boys song Don't worry baby was written with another artist in mind, though not likely Zed. Name the singer whose husband refused to let her perform it. (Clue the husband in question was a co-writer for the beach boys song I can hear music)
9. Name three blues guitarists who have/ had the surname King.(no clue)
10. Which American group upset the NIMBYs with their noise levels at western springs in 1983, possibly besides the American midget car racing team? (Two men with beards one called beard.)

Applaud for number 9. Guitarist Freddie King was the third I was looking for but Ben E king (the drifters/ solo artist "Save the last dance for me", 'Stand by me', 'Spanish Harlem") is cool.
My number 5 is an endorsed peavey user. to qualify further though my source on this one is a little questionable we re talking the american billboard charts, circa 1994.
some lyrics from the song in question courtesy of www.lyricsondemand.com
"so i turned the radio on, i turned the radio up, and this woman was singing my song: the lover's in love, and the other's run away, the lover is crying 'cause the other won't stay.
some of us hover when we weep for the other who was dying since the day they were born. well, this is not that: i think that i'm throwing, but i'm thrown.
and i thought I'd live forever, but now i'm not so sure.
you try to tell me that i'm clever, but that won't take me anyhow, or anywhere with you.''

The transexual drummer is in IRON MAIDEN. Though he is infact a gay leather-boy. Funny thing being that alot of the leather gear worn so much in metal was first found on the backs of the Iron Maiden boys, who had got their look from their drummer, who hadn't yet told them he was gay. (I'm not talking so much about the Biker Jackets as I am the studded straps and bondage type stuff)This always makes me laugh. The most macho of all music forms taking it's cues from the gay leather scene.

Hmmm Nicko McBrain? don't think so....
nice story but Iron Maiden were around (and their look) way before Nicko showed up - and ummm he's not gay.
I was gonna say Rhino Bucket ("the last real rock band") - Jackie Enx
...scary

I'm confused. I was thinking of Rob Halford from Judas Priest, whom the more astute of you will easily pick out is not a drummer at all.

interesting link dragstrip. No big surprises bout Halford, rumour has it he went on a holiday to greece with freddie mercury in the 80s that got a few tongues wagging.
The 'review' seemed a little anti metal but I think the reviewer has a few good points, the new cd does seem a little uninspired and the lyrics are plain ridiculous, often making referrences to past characters from past songs (ie. the sentinel) which to me paints more a picture of Halford et al doing the cd to pay for a new pool/ gym/ car than for artistic merit.
At work on 10 min break, will try to put up more questions later.

ok, finally some free time so some more questions.
Starting off in respect for Mr Halford.
1. Name the gay/ Bisexual musicians.
Joan Larkin (Lesbian) Farukh Bulsara (Bi) Vincent Furnier (Allegedly bisexual) Roswell Christopher Bottum(gay) Harry Webb.(allegedly) Richard wayne Penniman.(gay)
2. Name the fifties pop star who, on seeing the beatles perform at the ed sullivan theater, threw in the towel on his own singing career for a while, buying the exclusive rights to sell beatles posters in the usa, a move which took him from well off to extremely rich. (clue he covered a number of little richard songs and was known, for some reason, for his buckskin shoes)
3. The club that launched Blondie and the talking heads is called?
4. The Beatles are famously associated with a club themselves, in liverpool. Cilla Black was the coat girl there. Name it.
5. The Motorhead logo is an idea taken from a song from another band contemporary to them. Name the band and song.(The band in question named themselves after a film starring Boris Karloff)
6. She was a sex goddess who died at the age of 36, having married three times. her surname was taken from a former American president. He was a cult leader with ties to the beach boys who would go on to fame for the killing of a film director's wife. Prosecutor Vince Bugliosi played himself in the film about it. The shock rocker who steals from both their names for his stage moniker is?
7. Guns and roses unreleased album is called....
8. Which guitarist suggested the idea of putting fine tuners like you see on a violin on to a floyd rose tremolo?
9. the most recorded guitarist in history is?
10. Multiple choice. Sir Bob Geldoff is to Midge Ure like Michael Jackson is to A. Paul McCartney B. Lionel Richie C. Linda Perry D. Steve Stevens.
But the real question is why?
11. Speaking of Wacko Jacko, The lead break to beat it was played by?
12. Widely regarded as the first metal band was San Francisco band....

Not a clue, and too tired to google it, off the top of my head here's two guesses.........................
6. Marilyn Manson?
8. Kiwi guy named Dave Story first came up with the locking string design, and it had fine-tuners, so I'm guessing it was him. But it wasn't actually called floyed rose, it was something else, can't remember what. Floyd Rose came a bit later. So I've probably got this answer wrong?

Never a good idea to do anything tired. For logo read MASCOT, which I think is a little closer to the mark. apologies.

good guess but no.
no clues yet for 1.
2. released a heavy metal covers album a few years ago and was for a while the face of general motors.
3. think punk/ alternative...
4. is nailed- thanks Blues geek.
5. Animal in a helmet is?
6. Thank you Kristie
7. has the name of a country in it....
8. Who was in LA in the late 80s and likes whammy bars?
9. another LA resident this man was part of the infamous wrecking crew. though a mentor to the likes of Glenn Campbell in the 60s and Larry Carlton + steve Lukather in the 70s the axeman in question never had a star above his head. Guitar players might remember his guitar player articles in the 80s.
10 and 11 thanks Bluesgeek.
12. their manager was a hells angel, they were a 3 piece which started out as a psychadelic group. the b side to their debut single was a cover of Eddie Cochran's summertime blues. It is not the who, whose first single, in 1963 was 'I can't explain' (I don't know what the b side is but my dad does have a copy of it on 45)
