I almost feel like a real teacher!
Maths (yr 11 algebra), Maths (Yr 9 measurment/geometry) and more Maths(yr 10 circular geometry)...
Ah, the life of a secondary teacher in training Shocked
It takes ages to prepare 3 lessons, if I was a real full time teacher I would be planning 5 right now. How on earth do they do it???

My bet is, once they get into the swing of things - they make it up as they go along  Smiley  I used to do lesson plans for teaching peoples diving, and after I'd spent ages on it the first ten or so times, I jjust started using the same one, but adjusting it for the circumstances.  And making stuff up as I went along if nessisary  Kiss  Might be different at secondary school, cos you probably have to teach a lot more stuff, but you might be able to use the same lesson plan structure?

Yeah, you can probably come up with somekind of template and apply it to most lessons with room for variance.

I had a really good maths teacher in 5th form and he had a way of explaining everything in small steps to solve problems. If you can get someone to understand some kind of general solution and follow up with enough examples, then anyone who can follow instructions should be able to do year11 maths.

My ex-wife was a teacher.  As long as the curriculum doesn't change, its a doddle after the first year.  You end up with a nice big filing cabinet full of lesson plans you can use - even at the drop of a hat Wink

Word of warning though, don't forget to take off your teachers head as often as possible  Kiss

planning big to small is part of it. If you plan out the whole year at the start then work on down to the small details it becomes less of a hassle. From that you know exactly what needs to be covered and approx when (rule of thumb in schools things always take longer due to school trips, bus strikes etc if it seems like it will take 2 weeks expect it will be much closer to 3)
Then all you have to do is worry about the 'how' to teach it. once you've allowed for the couple of minutes at the start of the lesson that people come straggling in and the couple of mins at the end when they are clock watching you're looking at introducing some idea (learning outcome) making them apply it in a couple of different ways then summing it up at the end with a few concept questions or something similar. Immediately you are guaranteed to cover V and A learners (visual and aural) K (kinaesthetic learners)tend to be the harder part.
And of course in the real world you tend not to write lengthy lesson plans with L.O s and A O s as you trust whoever put the curriculum together and wrote the text books have a grip on that stuff- I find that is the biggest time saver.
That said always better to go in with more stuff than you need rather than less. (you then have extension work for faster kids also). Always worth having some 'real' work prepared but never goes amiss to build up a few copies of crosswords, puzzles etc. students never seem to complain if it's their regular teacher doing that kind of work with them- one note of warning on that though, leave just that with a reliever st's will see it as teacher hasn't left us real work so why do it? You will find a lot of paper airplanes strewn round the classroom the next day.
